You're not playing wrong.
You watch sunsets in Skyrim. You walk off the quest path in Elden Ring. You sit by the campfire in Red Dead when the game wants you to ride. You've been doing this for years. It has a name now.
It's called Slow Gaming.
What is Slow Gaming?
Slow Gaming is a player behavior — not a game genre, not a design trend. It's what happens when you stop following the developer's script and start engaging with the world on your own terms. The quest log says go north. You go west. Not because you're lost. Because west looked interesting.
Any game can be Slow Gamed. The game doesn't have to be designed for it. You just have to choose presence over progress.
